2025 Quarter Horsse Stakes Schedule Highlighted by $650,000 estimated TQHA Sale Futurity and 26 Stakes Races

(San Antonio, Texas - Thursday, April 17, 2025) - Retama Park released its 2025 Stakes schedule including 26 total stakes to be run during the tracks 30th racing season beginning June 26 and continuing through August 16. The 23-day Summer Quarter Horse Meet offers live horse racing Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings – first post 6:15 p.m. CT.

“I’m pleased that Texas Horsemen are excited about our upcoming meet at Retama” said Mike Acton, Racing Secretary for Retama Park. “Our upcoming 2025 Quarter Horse meet at Retama will be one of the most competitive meets this summer, as our Stakes program is on the rise. I have always been a fan of older horses running the classic 440 yards and San Antonio horse racing fans and Horsemen will get to see that competition in our AQHA Championship Challenge.”

Returning Horsemen share what they are looking forward to in the upcoming meet.

“I’ve had a lot of fun at Retama and I’m always looking forward to coming to the training center” states horseman John Stinebaugh who has been with Retama Since Opening Day. “Casanova and Make her Run are some of my favorites, I’m looking forward to this season, when there’s more opportunity they will breed more horses, and I believe Retama can and will become a premiere location and I do believe this will happen.”

“We have some of the best tracks in the country, we are thankful to have a great place to train” said Marc Jungers, “I anticipate Relentless Eagle and Shakers No Secret this season, both horses can come contend for this challenge and the road to get there starts at Retama, we are excited for horse Princess Chenoa who won handicap race in 2024, and we have some up and coming 2 year olds that we are looking forward to.”

“I’m happy to see what Penn Entertainment has been doing with Retama Park” states Bubba Lewis, “One of my favorite memories at Retama Park was when our horse Frenchie won Color of the Alamo Futurity in year 2023, I am looking forward to our horse Kiss My Tail Lights who qualified for the TQHA Futurity in 2024.”

“Last year was my first-year racing here in Texas” says TQHA trainer Carlos Lopez from California, “I’ve been training horses since the year 1981 and I have to say I really like Texas and I’m excited to be here, I’m proud of our 4-year-old filly Cowgurl Up who currently holds a track record in Houston.”

Live racing will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 6:15 pm (Central) from June 26 through August 16. Seats and dining reservations can be purchased in advance of live racing dates to avoid any lines when arriving at Retama Park. The track offers free seating in air-conditioned areas on the Clubhouse Level (3rd Floor), open-air seating on the Grandstand Level (2nd Floor), along with open-aired free seating on the Track Level (1st Floor) – general admission can be purchased in advance.
